sometimes the whole let off or lighten up a little thing doesn't work....its a biznitch, especially on uphills

I leave mine off in town when the pavement is dry, mainly cause TC is hard on the brakes. As soon as the pavement is wet, or it dips below 0 and there is a risk of ice, it'* back on.

Maybe to accelerate on ice...but never had to put it on.
