So to be safe we should stick some hefty magnets on the tranny pan to pull the shavings to one spot?

would strip magnets work better by any chance? I have a big roll of those suckers.. and they i'm thinking maybe I could have more manetic material then those small circle ones.

any magnets will probably work. his were able to be held on by the bolts of the tranny pan, and I *think* they went inside, but I am not sure.

Some of the strongest magnets in the world are computer hard drive magnets. Just stick them to the outside of the pan like I did.

They'll be alot stronget than strip magnets, and you need strength, not surface area. You're trying to 'grab' metal particles while they're circulating in the pan.

I got a couple of them stuck to my fridge at home. They are strong, too!! If you slide them, they take paint with 'em. Luckily, the landlord is cool. The miisus is kinda ticked off, tho....

OOOOH. totally forgot about those suckers. One of my teachers in the electrical department has tons of junked hard drives in his storeroom. Looks like I'll be takin a trip over there tomorrow for some magnets.

Thanks to this thread, I just grabbed a couple of junk HDs from the back room. Will rip 'em apart tonight, and have about magnets on my pan(*) before the snow flies...

I'll be putting one on each side of my oil drain plug, too. But that'* not such a concern for steel as the transmission is.
