I do not think that the pilot has any fault in this. The front wheel broke off and there is virtually nothing to stop the plane. I actually give credit to the pilot for saving hundreds of lives on board.

This incident was not due to pilot error, or mechanical failure, nor was it a problem with the airport, Midway sucks as an inner city airport but it falls within FAA regulations.
It was weather, apparently the visual distance was exactly the length of the runway making the distance hard to judge.
Kenn mentioned he was near the crash site at the time, I bet he could easily confirm the state of the weather at the time.
