Yeah....it was a shocker. He always lived his life like he was indestructible. Always taking chances. We live near some mountain tunnels where freight trains would pass thru them.....one of his favorite things to do was to walk deep into the tunnels right before a train passes thru it and just stand in there.........or hang from the framework of a train trestle (bare skeleton type of rail bridge) while the train was passing above him, once the train passes, he'd let go and drop about 50 feet into the river below.........That level of intensity. We basically grew up in each others homes as kids and then as adults, lived like brothers. He had his life, I had mine, and they intersected every week for what seems like a lifetime.
