Default OIL Question???

I have a couple questions about Oil. When I bought my Bonny from my mom ,my step dad told me to only use valvoline since it has always had this brand in it. He says its bad for a car to switch brands because different brands contain different additives. I was wandering if there is any truth to this??? I have been using Valvoline durablend synthetic blend now and I would like to switch to Mobile 1 at some point or another band. But I will have to use blends for now due to my finances. I also can't stand to have oil older than 2500 miles so I change it often. My other question is what brand would you recomend for me. I am now running a synthetic blend because I can't afford to use full just yet. Is there a better brand blend than valvoline?? When I has my caravan I used mobile 1 full synthetic. I never used synthetic blends before my Bonny so I am not sure if ones better than the other. I want one to protect my engine pretty good.

Everything I have heard boils down to the following:

1)Using the same oil everytime is usually best.

2)The brand of oil is usually not that important in daily driving as long as you change the oil every 3k or 3 months.

3) Quaker State is the exception to rule 2 due to excessive parafin (wax) buildup.

4) Synthetic is not good for new motors (< 5K miles) or high milage motors (> 100K) that have not run synthetic their entire life.

Not to get off the topic, but I have heard of this trick shift fluid. What does this do for our trannys? I though about picking some up before when I seen it at autozone, I didn't because I didn't know if it was good for our trannys.

Well, from some of the posts I've been reading lately, if you switch to Mobil1 (I'm running it) you can safely (no risk) run 6-10k miles between oil changes.

I'm going 6k on this run, and I'll have the oil analyzed when it comes out.

Yeah I think I will switch to Mobile 1 next oil change. Thats all I ran in my last 2 cars. Damn good oil in my opinion. As long as that myth about same brand being best is just a myth as I think it is. I value my Bonneville higher than any car I have ever owned so anything I do to it I want to completely research first. This car is like a member of my family and I only want whats best for her!!!

I run Mobil 1 in my 95, bought it new and now has 158,000 on it with no major problems or teardowns. I still use it for daily use, runs great. Now, I don't know if the oil choice was a factor in the long life this drivetrain, but it could not have hurt
