Have you ever had an upper intake failure? You have the follow-on symptoms of having coolant and water corrode your internals.

$600 sounds great for that replacement, but I'd do some more troubleshooting first.

Seems like a decent price, but you will look at another 500$ at least if you have someone install it. Or would you put the motor in yourself?

Be very careful! guy from the twin cities was having issues with his DSM, and the shop replaced the o ring on his oil filter mount i believe, and it blew the next time he drove. You can probably get away with this if you find the problem. $600 isn't bad, might be able to do better, A lot of GP guys have tons of parts, i think Ed Morad has tons of parts, or if nothing else you can sell them there.

I replaced the upper intake manifold about 2000 miles ago. I figured that it might be too late already. I would be putting the engine in myself if I got a different one.

Okay, so another question came to my mind. Does it matter what year I get the engine from? Most of the ones I'm looking at are 2000+ Most of them not Bonnevilles. Will those work? I know the GP'* have different engine mounts, but I would think the blocks are the same, just different holes utilized.
