Been here once or twice over the last couple years- thought I'd drop back in to get some advice.

I need to get me a new ride sometime in the next few months. I have my '95 Bonnie, and I love her, but, she just ain't gonna make it. Still runs and drives great, only got 100k on the drivetrain, and just needs a few things to make her perfect (Oil pressure sensor, and an alternator are all that I know of), but the frame is gone. I've done so much welding in the last year to try to keep her together that I think there'* more weld than steel left under there.

So here'* my issue- I've got a drivetrain in fantastic condition- the upper intake was just replaced last year after it hydrolocked, it'* only got 100k on it, and she runs like a champ. It'* a '95, with a series II 3800. Now, I wouldn't mind finding myself an SSEi with that beautiful supercharged 3800, but since I have a perfect n/a engine, what cars can I chop this thing into? How much different is my Series II to, say, an early 00'* Series II? I seem to remember that mine might be some goofy OBD 1.5- can I drop this thing into an OBD 2 car? I've found a couple (much) newer bodies with engine or transmission problems in my area, but I don't know if this is feasible or not.

Additionally, what other models can I look at? I know they used the 3800 in Buick'* and I think some Old'* and I dunno what else.

i would seem alot easier to sell your car and use the extra money to buy a car that has a decent engine already.

you'd be wasting much more money if you throw it into something else not including the headaches that might come up throughout the swap

If you still want to go forward with this, I believe your drivetrain is an OBD-II S2 engine with a 4T60E-HD transmission. That combo should fit easily into a 1995 or 1996 frame, though as with any different-year swapping, you may have slightly different connectors and/or mounts that will have to be dealt with.

It may be easier to sell the drivetrain, part out the car, and start from square one again.

Anyway- in reply to Zeta, I'm not real positive about the engine, hence this thread, but I'm pretty sure the tranny is a 4T60E, not HD. Car isn't supercharged. I thought the engine would be an L36, but I remember reading somewhere, sometime, that there was a funky 'in-between' engine with OBD 1.5, and I remember thinking that may have been mine.

At any rate, if non-ya think a swap is worth it, maybe I'll just part it out. I've done swaps before (got the lift, stand, and a heated garage too!), but it'* been years since we've done that. So much less fun...
