Thats kind of a given Yonkerse. A longer oil filter holds more oil. Won't be much in the scheme of a 4.5 capacity engine. A couple more ounces to cover the extra capacity of the filter. As far as running 5W oil in a 1999? Totally ridiculous suggestion. 5W oil is for more modern close tolerance engines. It will only hurt an older worn engine not designed in the first place for the thin oil. These thinner oils of today are for engines designed for them. And they don't provide better protection in any degree. They are a direct result of Gov. Legislation for cleaner air/emissions. Our new Prius daily driver needs 0W/20. And Toyota states that even 5W can hurt it. If the engine is designed for the thinner oil it needs to be used to prevent damage of thicker oil. But it doesn't have any benefits for others. Always stick with a manufacturer'* recommended weight, or go one thicker for ones with considerable wear. Never thin downward.

Its very minimal. 4.5 quarts will cover it perfectly fine.

By my completely off-the-hilt guesstimate, the two filters look to have about a 3/4 cup difference in size. Of course, that'* assuming 100% of the space in the filter is constantly full of oil.

But from real world experience, like others have said, it'* a negligible amount. Don't even worry about it. Just pick up a longer filter and the usual five quarts of your favorite oil.

You wouldn't have to add but maybe 2 or 3 ounces, hardly worth mentioning or topping off that little bit. I have always been told by many mechanics and automotive instructors not to add oil unless your going to put in a full quart. Dont know the reasoning, sometimes I do sometimes I dont. But if Im going to use my car hard, or go on a long trip, for sure.
