What'* the most lopsided stoplight race you've been in?

I'll start the ball rolling:

A few years ago, my friend Justin was driving a 1990 Subaru Legacy, and I was riding along. (Sorry, this story doesn't involve a Bonneville). We are cruising through Maple Grove around Midnight when we come upon a red stoplight. It'* a clear, warm summer night. As we are stopped at the light, a lone Firebird stealthily approches, halting next to us.

Nothing happens for a second, and then the f-body driver blips the throttle once, then twice more. My friend, being a good sport, revs the Subaru a few times, then creeps forward to match the 'bird. We're both laughing, knowing full well that the Legacy is about to be clobbered. Nonetheless, Justin is going to give it his best shot. Can't go down without a fight, eh?

The crosslight goes yellow. The firebird creeps forward a hair more. Justin puts the Legacy in gear, keeps the clutch disengaged, and brings the tach up to two grand. Red. Pause. Green! The Firebird spins its wheels. Justin drops the clutch and the Subaru takes off, with all four wheels grabbing at the pavement. We go about two lengths, then the Firebird hooks up, and the race is over. VRRRRROOOOM!! He passed us so fast that we could hear a Doppler shift. We lost, but we had fun doing it.

One time I was lined up with a 92-94 Nissan Maxima, and another car (a BMW 3-Series) was over in a third lane. Me and the Max were reving, about to go for it. We take off, about as fast as 16 second cars go, and are pretty much dead even. Then the BMW just comes screaming by us, and I get a nice look at the four exhaust tips and the ///M badge. Guess a 333hp M3 is a bit too much for my Pontiac to handle :P

Yeah, those Bimmers are quick. One time, I happened to reach a light at the same time as my friend, who was driving a 328is. He had one passenger; I had three in my '93 SSE. The light turned green, and we were off. The Bonnie put up a good showing but ultimately succumed to the BMW.

However, the reason I had two extra passengers is because they couldn't fit comfortably in his back seat.

Somewhat off topic: At the time, we were all headed to Whiteland Raceway near Indianapolis. If you live in the area, I recommend that you go. They have fast carts (45 mph!) and a 30-degree banked turn. Somewhat expensive, yet worth every penny.

I had 2 kids in a mid 80'* Ford LTD try to race me. The light went green and they floored so I rolled out to 10mph and let them get 2 car lengths on me then floored, spun the tires and was out of it by 53 mph and had 2 car lengths on them. Another time I lined up behind a Z71 truck who was getting ready to race a Ford Explorer. The light went green and they both hit it. I went slow till about 30 so the gap between the Z71 and explorer was big enough for me to fit through then passed them both and was out of it before 80 mph. I was shocked that the Z71 beat the explorer as easily as it did.

On the other side when I had my Mustang GT I tried racing a local guy with a Trans Am. We pulled up along side of him and my friend was like race him so after some coaxing I finally said why not. The Trans Am was a 76 Trans Am with a built 455 in it. Needless to say I took off because he let me and then he passed me like I was standing still. The worst part is I could tell he wasn't even running up the rpm'*.

I also had a 78 Z28 with a mildly built 70 Chevelle 350 motor. I was driving down a curvy back road when I got passed by a 70 chevelle that sounded good but looked stock so I took off after him. Needless to say even with it being a curvy road and having a car that cornered good I couldn't even come close to keeping up with him. He waited for me at the end of the road and we chatted. He had a built 400 small block and he was hoping to run 12'* in the 1/4 with it. My Z28 was a high 14 second car but I am still shocked at how he pulled me through the corners.

A friend of mine has an LTD, carbed straight six, what a grandma car. No comparison to even my base 170hp Bonnie. But I hear that becuase the LTDs were built off the Fox chassis, a 302 bolts right up. Would make a nice sleeper.

On the "GETTING" side been there with that BMW M3! I thought I was racing a new style Honda! When the light changed and I was left so far behind it was like I wasn't even moving! At the next lights I saw the BMW badge!
On the "GIVING" side, I once raced a 4cyl "Rustang". This kid wanted to race me! He had moral support (two guys in the car with him)! The light changed to green I shot off...He came up but couldn't keep up...I then gave the Bonneville SE full throtle...He tried to go faster but the car'* engine gave up first!...One minute he was in my rear view mirror, the next minute he coasting towards the shoulder! LOL
