could it be better up top because the 3.5 has 4 valves per cylinder, allowing it to breathe better maybe?

well, by nature DOHC engines have a much better high end but typically lack lower end torque.

It'* the same story with the Aurora V8 VS the supercharged 3800. The torque difference is substantial between the two. The poweroutput in general is huge IMO.
The difference between the 3.5 and L36 seems much smaller in comparison. lol

well, superchargers always massively help out on the low end, so there'* the advantage right there.
