i think the supercharger is the only reason i am attacking this project with any enthusiasm at all. lol

as stated in an earlier thread:

almost 20 years ago my father traded in his 1988 mustang gt for a brand new 1988 bonneville sse for my mother. once the bonneville was traded in on another car my mother started the "i liked my bonneville"

a few weeks ago my father found a 1995 sse i which has been sitting for 4 years or so. he said since your mother keeps saying how much she liked the bonneville i'll get it for her. buying the car carried a certain risk. the previous owner parked the car due to an unresolved engine noise.

Day1
i trailered the car home

Day2
pulled the plugs and squirted some penetrating fluid in the cylinders to reduce the chance of a ring sticking to the cylinder wall. a few days later i spun the engine over by hand.

while the plugs were out i check that it had spark, it does. it also made a horrid clatter while it turned over. got me thinking and i took the oil fill cap off and made sure the rocker i could see was moving. compression tested the engine and found ~150psi each cylinder. that made me feel better. took the acc belts off and poking around i found the harmonic balancer is SHOT. the outer ring the belt rides on has rotational movement around the pulley itself.

also found no fuel pressure. checked fuse and relay. bad pump was conclusion.

Day3
dropped tank. man that fuel was rotten. draining fuel through the filler vent was quite time consuming. regardless of having the correct tools the quick disconnect fuel lines were not so quick to disconnect for me. :? low quality cell phone pics don't show how ugly pump is but it looks like it was pulled from hudson river bottom:



save for the exhaust the undercarrige is in spectacular condition:





i have a preliminary parts list: pump/sending, fuel filter unit/harmonic balancer. plan on putting a coat of paint on gas tank while i wait for parts to arrive. if all goes well at this stage the tune up parts will be next.

Another one saved. Gives me a good warm feeling.









But that might be the tequila. Not sure right now.

i assume my mother. i guess it depends how much my father likes it when it'* functional again.

going to try and get over there after work today and shot some paint on the gas tank. i figure it'* out so why not try and preserve it the best i can.

Nice car and cool garage. Frilly window drapes and all! Looks better than alot of homes I've been in. Judging from the underside of that SSE, you must be from a Southern state. How many miles on the engine?

my father is into his garage. plus those windows face street side and it'* just a bit more appealing from the front then seeing cars on jack stands.

suburbs of nyc. why i was SHOCKED at the condition of the floorpans.

original owner is a 92 year old woman. she put just 57k miles on the car.

57k. That is great. Make sure you check the UIM at some point.

The car is supercharged.

But I would still replace the LIM gaskets at some point in the near future.
