Default Looking for 4WD SUV

I am considering purchasing a used 4WD SUV soon, as I'll most likely need the 4WD for when it snows, getting up and down the mountain I live up on can be dangerous without one.
Now I still may get this 2004 Buick Park Ave Ultra I have been drooling over, and just use some good chains only when totally necessary.
But it would be more beneficial to have an actual SUV with 4WD, I am trying to stay 8,000.00 or under, so my options are limited.

Ant suggestions are appreciated.

I have looked over some RAV4'*, but could not find any at a decent price, or with good mileage.
I found a 2004 Nissan Xterra XE for 7k, but it has 95k miles, not too bad, but lower mileage would be nice.
I'd like to stick with something like Chevy, Buick, etc, but in reality I care more about quality, function, and price more than I do brand..
