knocking sound?

Default knocking sound?

my 1998 pontiac bonneville has a loud knocking sound when i turn it on in the morning and after it gets warmed up it goes away and the check engine light turns on? what can this be?

Where'* the noise coming from. Only when you idle, or all the time? A little more info could help out a little.

only when its idle in the morning when first started. the knocking sound is pretty fast sounds like metal hitting against something. it sounds by the upper intake manifold.

actually now everytime i start it it makes the sound for like 5 minutes then it goes away after i start driving. the oil pressure is good.

I'm guessing its a harmonic balancer. Thats the same conditions mine was when it went out.
