Default just checking in, got some new tires

hey all. just checking in. some of you know that i make all my money by shoveling and doing yardwork etc so wintertime im almost never on the computer. as a result of this ive (FINALLY) been able to get some new tires and replace my old ones id imagine the old owner paid about $100 for the set. (wingoro or some weird off brand)

he said he bought these tires on black friday of 09, i bought the car on jan 21st of last year, and have gone 8k on them. they were wayyyyy out of alignment in the rear. way too much camber. i ofcourse got a 4 wheel alignment.

i ended up getting 4 Michelin symmetry tires, my dad has them on his park ave and theyre rated for 65k but he has about 70k on the rears and they still have tons of tread left. im reasonably sure they came on the car stock. in top of that they wear perfect and are really quiet. so it was a no brainer. i also opted for the 65k protection plan that covers everything but vandalism.

heres some pics of the tires.

fronts not too bad

Great tread pattern on those new tires. Looks like they will go right threw snow. Those old tires really have bad wear. Good thing you got the alignment.

Very interesting. I have never been a fan of the Symmetry'*, but that is just due to my impression of the tread. Just my opinion, and has no factual basis.

I am surprised at the way the rear tires wore though. How many miles did the previous owner put on them? My thoughts are that it took more than camber to do that, especially in the rear. What was the rear toe like?

well i think alot of it was the fact i drove a good 6k on them with bad back shocks. not sure on the toe, it didnt look too out of spec. the left was a little worse than the right. the left trailing arm was bent, they had to bend it back. just confirms my suspicions about the previous owner getting sideswiped. inside of front bumper is the maroon color, inside of the back door skin is rippled and the hood is fiberglass. all this makes me think this car was in a substantial crash at one point. repair (except the trailing arm) looks cosmetically and mechanically perfect though.

as for the tread pattern, there is more road noise than the previous tires but in order to make any money i have to beat the plows to houses and that usually means driving on roads with 6" or so of fresh snow. and to put it simply, those old ones didnt get traction anywhere under 20 mph lol. having driven my dads car i knew these ripped up the snow like nobody'* business and aren't excessively loud in the dry. plus being only $100 a tire and wearing so well it was an easy call on my very limited budget.

your fronts were right on the wear bars and your rears on the cords...other then alignment how often did you rotate your tires? As for driving around on bad shocks, you would more likely have some cupping on the inside of the tires then haveing them wear to the cords...btw, good tire choice..

can you scan a copy of your alignment sheet? I do alignments everyday I can take a look at it and see if left something undone...

Nope, just listing charges. Usually there is another sheet that tells you what the alignment info is, but it says they didn't adjust anything though...
