im pretty sure i have it figured out but id like some outside input my buddies intrepid overheated and started spraying today this is the first time its ever done it i did not find and broken or blown lines or bad gaskets or leaks and the water pump is good i replaced it as soon as he bought it like a month ago it was spraying from the overflow bottle and then i drove it about 20 miles after it was cool and it didnt do anything abnormal seems to me that his stat just stuck open for a minute and is on its way out it a 200 degree stat i told him to put a 180 in it for the summer but does that theroy sound about right cause i checked everything and the stat seemed the only thing ''weird''

The blow off is what the cap is designed to do. Blow the pressure if it gets to high. A stuck open thermostat would not do this. My thought is air in the cooling system. This vapor locked the thermostat and the block over heated. The thermostat then got hot enough and blew off the pressure in to the radiator. I would bleed the system, but it may have done that for you.
