i totaled my baby:( now w/ PICS
After hearing you say you hit as fast as you did, and seeing the pics. You are only sore? Really says something about how well the car takes a hard hit and protects the occupants.
Having the windows down is nice as long as you don't go through bushes. That must have seemed like a storm of debris flying in at you.

yes it was quite a debris storm, i was pickin stuff out of my hair, and my clothes were covered and stuff...
and i really wish they would let me remove more stuff, they said i could no remove wheels, tires, or anything at all having to do with the mechanical functioning of the car....so that means the bastards get to keep my Magnaflow as well as my rims....and i wish i could get those rims, one still has some tar on it, but id clean em up real nice and then one of you lucky fellows would have yourselves a nice set of winter rims or perhaps just a new set alltogether...
thanks for all the replies guys, makes me feel all special and whatnot, and yes these cars are safe, so if youre thinking about going out and totaling your Bonneville and your scared to get hurt, go for it!
and im surprised im only sore as well, you can imagine howd id feel if i had been going the other way, if nothing else i woudlve got nailed with an airbag...which brings up an interesting point, if you got rear-ended in a Bonneville your airbag WOULD NOT go off...that would suck

It'* too bad they won't let you take stuff off your car. That little red Pontiac arrowhead isn't sold separately and some kid pirated mine. I had to buy an entire grille assembly just to get the arrowhead. I still have the grille with the missing arrowhead!
I'm really glad your Bonnie did you good. It'* a total testament to how safe these cars are. In 1999 about a month after I bought my 97SE I was visiting family up in the hills and I borrowed my 18 y.o. cousin'* jeep to go sightseeing. In case of an emergency, I left him my car keys. Man was that dumb. He interpreted it as a free ticket to go for a ride, and he slid off a road and did $8500 damage to the front end of my Bonnie. -But he and his buddy walked away from it, just a little sore. Insurance fixed my car. Today they would just total it out.
I know that feeling when you know you're going to hit something. I slid off an ice-covered road in my old 78 Bonneville, and hit an embankment. Time slowed down, and I had time to move out of the way of the steering wheel, and ponder what I might hit, knowing it was going to to be bad. I walked away from that too, and the car only suffered about $1000 in damage. It'* still on the road!
You might consider another Bonneville, maybe another series 2, they can be had pretty cheap these days and they're great cars.

How about a little bit of your story for the testament to the safety of these cars?

eh. That'll buff right out.
Seriously, though, I'm glad you're OK, and you should be glad you were driving an H-body. Alot of other cars I could name wouldn't have held up as well as that one did.
