I hope you don't mean Quad4 head gaskets. I've owned 2 for a total of 6 years....never had any mechanical problems other than a single stuck thermostat.

The 3100/3400 series motors in use today are known for head gasket failure.

Hmm, perhaps I'm confusing it for another 4-banger in the GA (any such animal)? I've heard of cracked head problems, head gaskets etc etc...

Proabably a different 4. The Quad4 is the predecessor to the Aurora and Northstar V8'*. Hell-bent capability. They raced these things professionally for a number of years.

AJ Foyt broke some land speed records at Bonneville with the Quad4 that haven't been topped to this day.

What is the Quad 4, anyway? Neighbour'* got a 2.5 I4 in his Pontiac 6000, low mileage but it runs and sounds like crap (unaffectionately called a diesel), says "4 Tech" on the intake. At least he'* got an LG3 '87 LE to replace it now

1995ish Grand Am, I've heard only bad things from those with reliability.

Nice kill Joe, I'm not surprised you beat the GA GT. My sister'* b/f has one (2002 I think) On the drive to Michigan yesterday he punched it a few times. It had some nice passing power, but I didn't feel the same grunt as I do when I punch mine.

actually pretty nice cars on the outside, the interior is just sooooooo bad,
I don't mind the interior of the GA GT my sis'* b/f has, but I do think they overdid it a bit on the bubble style dash. I am considering getting a shift **** from one though. I like it better than my t-style ****.

The 6000 never went into a 6000. The intake cover should be clearly marked as 'Quad4' and the car should be badged to match. The only cars that saw this motor that I know of:

Cutlass Calais
Grand Am
(I've owned one of each with the Q4)
and
Beretta

There may be more. The Quad 4 was a fairly large-bore DOHC 15-valve I-4.

Here, one of those motors. Distributor/cap/plug wires is mass fun to do on this car - it'* all on the lower part of the BACK of the motor. 2.5L, not a Quad4? I notice half-dead old Grand Ams sounding the same.

Sorry, But I would take any Quad 4, before I would look at a Tech 4...

and i'd take a import 4 banger before any american 4

Unreliable? I'll argue. My ownership of that motor spanned 6 years. Nothing but oil changes and a thermostat.

Have you owned one, Joe?
