Default I have to be honest...

I really don't trust this thing:

I regret selling our 99 SE. Even with 175,000 miles, I'd drive that thing anywhere without thinking twice.

For some reason, I don't have any confidence in the GS. Maybe it'* all the electronics (ECC, traction control, etc.), maybe it'* the fact that it blew an axle a day after we bought it, maybe it'* because we bought it with 100K on the ticker, or maybe it'* the fact that it'* a completely new engine to me. I'm not sure, but my confidence just isn't there. And probably unjustifiably so.

We're taking a road trip to Florida in March and taking two other people. I'm seriously considering taking the Civic because I trust it. Maybe my sentiments will change between now and then regarding the Buick and we can take that instead.

I plan to throughly go through the car in a couple weeks - coupler, replace SC oil, LIM gaskets, bypass elbow, valve covers, plugs, wires, thermostat, belts, coolant hoses, flush the dex out. That could help.

Give it the thorough going over and then trust you did well. You won't want to drive that Civic for 1100 miles with two other people in the car. It will not be a comfortable ride.

I know exactly how you feel. I haven't trusted the Impala since about a month or two after I bought it. It hasn't let me down yet, but I'm trying not to think about what will happen when it does...

I can understand your concern after experiencing some problems right after getting the car. My daughter has the '98 GS, and it'* been reliable for her. Biggest problem was a frozen idler pulley, so before your trip...make sure those are part of your inspection.

Very understandable. the 95 blew a cooling line 22 hours after I bought it.

On it being totally different. You will be happy with how much like your L36 this motor is...in nearly every way. Instead of calling it an UIM you call it an SC. Less initials.

thats to bad. I was 100% confident in my PA from the day I bought it. In fact, I took it on a 300 mile roadtrip the day after I bought it.

Yeah, but your'* didn't crap out on you right after you bought it. I think that'* the real issue here...loss of faith, that takes a while to build up again.

I once owned a used Taurus that would break down every three or four months until I finally lost my shirt and sold the bast**d POS. Since, I'm fairly optimistic, I'd just about be ready to trust it again and some major item would fail, like the Trans, or the whole electrical system, etc...
