Default HUDless windsheild

I got a couple quotes on windsheilds today. I am definitly not going with the HUD one, they want 2500 bux installed and only 350 for the HUDless one. One of the places I talked to said GM uses the same type of material used in airplane windsheilds and that they are becoming a rarity. What will happen with my HUD with the HUDless windsheild?

I honestly don't think there that rare, alot of newer gm vehicles have HUD. And you don't necessarly have to buy a HUD windshield, there is a reflective film that can be put on the new windsheild above the HUD projector..or so ive heard. Look into it.

I remember reading some posts about this matter. Try doing a search for HUD

Your HUD will be a bit dimmer and almost invisible in sunlight, but there is some good news; I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico

Sorry, had to use that line sometime.

Seriously though, there is good news; you may be able to restore your HUD visibilty by using some type of glass treatment. There are lots of reflection-reducing treatments out there, someone [i[must[/i] make a treatment to restore reflectivity.

i test drove a 94SSEi once that had the windshield replaced without the HUD one and the image was horrible. i had to drive with the hud off just to drive because the image was so doubled and hazy, it was aweful. Do you have comprehensive on you insurance. If so, ask my mom, SSE14U24ME and she can tell you how to file it depending on your ins. company and whatnot! You have to nice of a car to do that unless you just absolutely have to. My HUD is my favorite part of the car and my ins company just spent 1325 for a brand new HUD windshield with installation for my car a couple of months ago. All i had was my 100 deductable!!

Yes, definitely check into the details of your insurance coverage. I pay a few extra dollars every 6 months for a "Glass Endorsement" which covers repair/replacement of any broken glass on my vehicle with NO deductible. I have a few chips in my windshield and I plan on filing a claim soon... I almost WISH I had HUD just so I could get my money'* worth out of all the insurance!

Whatever company you talked to is feeding you a line of BS. The HUD windshield is NOT $2500.....so tell him he'* full of it and call elsewhere. The HUD windshield is maybe 100-200 more than the regular one depending upon where you go.

I saw the first post and nearly died! I have a chip in my windshield and it needs to be fixed. $2,500 for a windshield! everyone at that company must be smokin' the good crack!
