maybe it'* just me, but, I don't particularly like the look of the 2 door Bonneville?

seriously, the 2 door bonne'* in the begging, look like a 2 door grand am (pre 99) and that old bonneville 2 door looks like a fiero

buy a 2 door if you want one

ok there are 2 things that concern me about this project at the moment, 1 the mention of the welding, at the moment i have 2 conflicting sources my teacher at school saying proper welding shouldnt compromise the frame strength, and SSE14U24ME talking about the body shop near him and car'* welds breaking, anyone else have info about this?

my other concern is that taking 24 inches off the wheel base will actually make the bonneville have a wheel base almost 3 inches SHORTER than an old mazda miata, thats might be too short and make the car unstable at higher speed

you dont change the wheel base, like i said, 2 doors are the same as 4 doors they just have longer front doors and more of a "wheel fender". notice how the door on a 4 door opens to the contour of the rear wheel wheel, but on a 2 door there'* some space before the door starts.

not that this is even realistic, you cant just cut 2 feet out of a car. its not like you can just cut a section out, and weld her up. 2 words STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY (sp?)

ok does anyone have anythign productive to say on this? i really want to make a project of it, but if it will severely compromise safety than i dont want to risk it, but i do know of plenty of people doing framework on cars, making custom frames, extending frames,shortening them, are all these cars now unsafe?

I would talk to Jesse James at the Monster Garage before undertaking any of this. j/k On a serious note though, this is a huge project to accomplish. Welding technology has surely advanced over the years, it is a skill in high demand especially TIG, MIG welding. What'* more important here is the alteration of the dynamics of the frame, unibody etc. I would definitely seek out a structural engineer disciplined in auto body for consultation. Then the rest of the logistics that have impact on the electrical/mechanical systems requires careful planning. Good Luck with it, man. More power to ya!
