My stock tires are 215/65R15.

The new tires that the tire guy recommended were for the same year bonneville the wheel came off of which would be 235/55R17 but the tire calculator says that i should go with a 235/50R17 to put my speedometer alot closer to its original (.96% off vs 4.504%) Is that correct and do you think thats a smart idea?

Will the wider tires cause problems with the stock offset wheels? My dad hid the wheels so i cant find what their offset is, but in my research i have definately seen people that have said they have rub at that tire size and some say they havent.

a 5% difference in speedometer, at 50mph, it will read +/- 2.5mph, at 100mph, it will read +/- 5mph

just think about how little difference that 5% REALLY is

i run 255/50-17'* on my 2000 SSEi, try 245/45-17'* real close to your ( 215/65-15'*) for tire diameter ( 25.7" vs 26.0" ) see if they will fit your car

you dont have any tire rub issues? It seems as though our ('94) wheel wells are a little smaller because of the smaller tire sizes...

my car is a 2000, but no i have not had any tire rub issues in 20,000 miles.
take your car to a tire shop and mount an 245/45-17 and see if it will rub.
most shops will mount one tire to check for clearance issues at no cost.
the shop does want to SELL you the tires you want so YOU look real close
to make sure the tires will not rub.
