Darcy, by looking at it, it seems to be simple vinyl electrical tape unless I'm missing something. Can you describe it better?

There are a few things:

It has a pressure sensitive adhesive. This is different that typical electrical tape.
It is self-extinguishing (in under 2 seconds).
When unwound from the roll, will have no tendancy to curl.
Adhesive won't transfer to the adjacent layer when unwound at 24ft./min.
Various adhesion requirements to PVC and polyethelene.

Some of the testing certification requirements include such things as:

Oven Age: Hang 153mm (6") length of tape in circulating oven at 130 degrees C (266 degrees F) for 24 hours. Tape shall not melt or exhibit any adverse effects.

These are just a few of the items outlined in the specs this product must meet.

Although I've not yet seen this product, it should also have a more matte finish than electrical tape. This is probably only important to the REALLY anal guys like me

Ok, it looks a bit different. I was expecting the OEM cloth harness tape like on the engine harness under the alternator.

I'm still in for a few. I'll buy in tomorrow.

I can certainly get that as well. The down side is that whatever I buy only comes in case lot quantities. They make all kinds of different automotive tapes. I picked this up because it is what'* most commonly used, particularly for body harness stuff. I can check into the cloth tape as well and get back to you.

I had a chance to use some for the first time tonight. I removed my washer solvent heater because the wiring wasn't routed quite right after my last trip to the dealership. I decided to remove the black electrical tape and re-wrap the harness before re-installation. Personally, I really like the stuff. As they promised, it is highly conformal and has a better "feel" while wrapping. The adhesive definitely seems different than regular tape and it has the same appearance as the GM wrapped harnesses.

For those of you who received some, I'm curious to hear your impression

I really like the tape, but it'* encouraged me to tear my car apart. You may have seen the progress pics, which I took with my awesome new free digital camera. Now with the tape and camera, I'm having a bit too much fun.

Someone came by and laughed at the thought of special tape. I'm going to print that list so I can just whip it out next time.

Well, yeah. Hopefully the list will help. Does the list show that you can unwind the tape at 24 feet per minute without any issues?

I know the specs do. I'll try and find a copy I can post, or at least get a more comprehensive list. I only posted a portion of what the spec requires.
