You are just down the road from me.

I hate to see that stuff happen. That was a nice window temp fix though.

Was your car pretty hidden? Does your employer have security cameras in the parking lot?

I just want to say nice window job! LOL

Ya bummer about the car, that always scares me because I have a touch screen, and its more painful the damage they do to your car then when they take the damn stero...

Cops don't come for a stolen stereo around here either. They send you a form to fill out *in case* they recover it - LOL yea, right....
its one of they ways they get a lower crime rating too so its not likely to change either.

Its why I won't invest in a system in a daily driver; they're too easy to break into and, unlike the old two-**** radio'*, todays din style are altogether too easy to remove. I can get into my F150 and yank the radio in well under a minute even without using the keys.

i once had someone break into my car to steal the change out of my console. no joke. broke my window for a handful of change.

last couple of cars have had hidden cd changers and stock head units.

Bad part is that metal window trim. It'* probably more expensive than the actual glass. The rreason they do that is it'* a quiet way to break glass. Just get a little torsion on the edge and one quiet "crunch" noise later, they have an empty window.

Again, please tell us your insurance covers that...

One more reason I'm leary about a full-screen player, even though I really want to fill out that massive double DIN opening in my dash.
Seriously thinking about reinstalling the stock player in the dash, and running more cable to an aftermarket player hidden under the armrest. Only thing that has to work on the stocker is lights/clock.

Thanks for all the responses. Answering a few questions, yes- I have insurance. However, the price of the radio, adapter, and glass is going to be right at my $500 dollar deductible mark. The cost of the metal pillar trim is going determine whether I claim it or just hike up my skirt and grab my ankles.

I had never really considered a remote located radio. Anyone know if most decks will play discs in a vertical position? My next deck is likely going to have a USB input along with a big flash drive, so it may not need to play CD'* anyway, but I'd still like to know.

No, the cops took my info over the phone as the burglary didn't equate to grand theft.

My car was not hidden. It was parked at the side of the building located between two busy roads in a well lit parking lot (no cameras though). The door that was broken into was parked beside a coworker, which would hide the thief a little.

I'm guessing the thief must have done his work leaning in through the window, as no one noticed my factory alarm honking (90min timeframe for me, coworkers leaving at that time didn't notice a thing). If he did open the door and set off my alarm, does that automatically stop after a set time? Or does it keep going until it is reset by the fob?

I probably did a bit of overkill on the temp. window. But I don't trust myself to drive without seeing out my side window and side mirror. I was also leary of the mess that tape can make when its subject to heat and sun for a period of time.

Oh yeah, does anyone know the part number for that black metal pillar piece?

At least I have the satisfaction of knowing that no one will be able use the radio without its passcode.
