I dont know if you heard already, but I was watching tv the other night and I noticed a commercial where GM is finally offering 100,000 mile warranty on all of their cars. Whats your take on this?

IMO, its about damn time. This will really help them to get out of their slump and help sales. Im glad they are offering this. I've read a number of interviews of Bob Lutz trying to improve quality for the past several years and I believe him. Now all they have to do is actually advertise each of the cars they actually manufacture (many people dont know that the Grand Prix is still being made!) and hopefully we should see them come back.

i think this will do wonders for their sales, now no one can complain about the reliability vs an import

I too saw this commercial on T.V. but then agian thats probably when the parts that will fail, fail.

I hope it works for GM. I know that When my GF bought the Grand AM she also purchased GM'* premiere plus warranty, wich is 100,000 miles.

hopefully GM"* warranty isn't as BAD as the foreign car companys' warranty! Many don't realize that only SOME parts are covered by the 100k warranty. Things like the transmission/engine are no longer covered after a certain mileage, say, 50k miles, and at each set mileage interval, more parts drop off of the "covered" list. By 100k miles, very few things are covered under warranty. It'* very misleading. Atleast with GM'* 60k warranty that came standard on my car, EVERYTHING was covered up until 60k miles, including even light bulbs.

The commercial I saw said it was a drivetrain warranty.

Brake pads were not covered under the 36000 mile warranty on our Grand Am.

Normal wear items such as brake pads, tires, etc... are not covered under the warranty. But this is supposed to be a 100k mile drivetrain warranaty so engine/transmission, etc... should be covered.

From what I have read, the '07+ PCM'* are gonna be really restrictive and I guess pretty hard to modify. If they find that any modifying to the PCM has been done, your warranty is void. This is what I've read, not sure if its 100% true, but I know the PCM'* are gonna suck. But for most consumers, this won't be an issue, and its definately about time for GM to step up and do this IMO.

This is purely a business decision for the General.

Something has to give, if a company is going to offer drivetrain warranties for 160 000kms or 100 000 miles, they have to restrict the PCM somehow.

Its a decision based on economics.

Overall its a great move PR wise. GM is offering a great lineup once again, it hasnt looked this good in a LONG time, I say kudos.

better hope and prey my G8 will be fast enough as it is.

hold on, hold on. This warranty is crap. It'* pretty much the same thing as their last one for most regular drivers. It'* a 100,000 mile warranty, yes, but only for five years. That'* 20,000 miles a year. Which is a ton of driving. It just doesn't seem like a big difference from their old warranty.

that just means thatt they can use cheaper parts to build the car..
