Default GM 3800 Series II Engine knock

63K Engine, very clean inside. Took off oil pan, no metal shavings, tried isolating cylinders by injectors and plug wires, and still no change in loud tapping noise. Tried the stethoscope, noise seems to be coming from the timing chain side of the motor, Valve train seems to be functioning properly, Engine runs fine, not missing or smoke. Good compression on all cylinders are about 150 psi. Pulled off serpentine belt, noise still there. Any Ideas???

Well, you did say it'* coming from the timing chain cover area. I would say pull the cover. The chain tensioner may be going bad.
