The gear selector light isn't on
Are you talking about the red bulb that shows what gear you are in? That is a bulb. And so is the performance shift button light. Others on this site have worked on those.

I fixed mine once thought the bulb had burned out but what happened is the wire some how got cut. I do believe that the light for the gears and the mode you're in are different. To fix it I had to take out the armrest and stuff around the shifter.

ssesc93... I don't mean to hijack your post... but what is this "performance shift" light/button?
I own a 91 NA, nice car... but I'm missing the SC and I guess now some "performance shift" option. Does it make a big difference? I'm assuming harder shifts. What years was this an option on?

Is it a button you can push to turn it on/off, or does it come on automatically with WOT?
I drove a 2000 SSEi a few weeks ago, and I didn't notice such a button. Of course I drove for 20mins before I remembered that the model came with a HUD. hehe

Don't you just hate it when you drive a car you really like and get sso excited that after you finished you forget to notice what the car has and forget to check out the stuff? I hope you know what I mean 'cause I can't never explain stuff correctly. On the 2000+ models, the car has raw power. No buttons. The 92-99 */C has a Performance Shift and a Normal Shift. If you hit one button the other goes off and vice versa. Thats all.
Correction: The performance shift button LIMITS the shifts to an economy level in normal. In Performance, it allows shifts at the same rpm level of a car without the option. This was verified between a 93SSE (Jseabert, without the option) and a 93SSEi (mine, pre-chip, with the option).
