Heh...back when my first Bonneville (the '92 SE) was still new to me, summer of 2003 perhaps, I was once driving around with some friends at about 3am, and suddenly I heard the chimes and saw the warning...not knowing what it was at first, I thought "OMGWTF is that", haha...scared the crap out of me to say the least.

I generally don't let it get that low though. Once I was cutting it pretty close a few months back (got about halfway into the yellow zone), but most of the time I fill it when the gauge shows between 1/4 and 1/2. Probably the reason for that is that I really only fill up before road trips anymore...otherwise, I only drive 5-10 miles per week when I'm up at the university. I just filled up last night (well, put in $15 worth anyway) for the first time since January 22. :P
