Well, these are minature incandescent lamps that we're talking about. I think the odds are slim to none that this condition would cause a fire. Just my .02. The current that is carried by this illumination circuit is very low. However, to get things right, I'd look into re-lamping. I've never messed with the steering wheel lamps, but I would imagine it requires micro surgery & a steady hand to relamp the steering wheel. Prolly need a shot & a beer for starters.
