Default Which is faster?

My '93 Bonne SE with it'* 170hp, or the '92 Saturn SL2 my dad just got, complete with the 2.2L, 124hp twin cammer four and a 5-speed manual tranny? I drove behind him on the way home from the mechanic where my dad got a friend of his to replace the clutch, and it seemed pretty peppy. Any thoughts? He thinks it has more acceleration, hehe :P

It might. Them things aren't awfully heavy. If it doesn't outaccelerate you, it sure as hell will still have a lot of pep.

i think that the bonne would take the Sat off the line but the Sat would catch up later on in the run with the twin cam, i would have to say even on a 1/4 mile

Auto 4 bangers are a waste of a time. Go drive an auto and a manual version of some econo box sometime....

It might be close. Some of the later L series got the 3.5 from the Caddy Catera... They can move nicely.

That 2.2L isn't the quad4 is it.

my wifes L300 has the saab 3.0 and it aint slow at all but it loves to rev and since saturns are moslty plastic they dont weight much at all so they kinda suprise ya. i think if i raced my bonne with my wifes saturn it would be dang close but i got her off the line but when that thing get to the highr rpms it comes alive

btw i dont think any of the L series got the 3.5 caddy only the normal 4banger and the saab 3.0.

Hang on a minute, I just noticed.

The Saturn SL = the little Saturn

It'* got a 1.9L, not a 2.2, as far as I know. It should still be peppy.

Powertrain Options and Availability
The basic engine for the SL1 sedan and SW1 wagon is a single-cam, 1.9-liter 4-cylinder engine. It provides 85 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 110 pound-feet of torque at 2800 rpm. A shift from single-point to multipoint fuel injection in 1995 results in new performance figures of 100 horsepower at 5000 rpm and 114 pound-feet of torque at 2400 rpm. Both the SL2 sedan and SW2 wagon move up to a twin-cam version of the same 1.9-liter 4-cylinder. It delivers 124 horsepower at 5600 rpm and 122 pound-feet of torque at 4800 rpm. Both the single-cam and twin-cam versions of the 1.9-liter come paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

Was just there, hehe :P Sorry about the mistake. 1.9L it is. I'll tell you what, he'd accelerate from 30 to about 50, I had to get on it good to even keep up! It is true, they WILL surprise you...

i used to drive a 92 SC2, it had the auto and i was surprized it was really peppy for 124 hp.... it was a really nice lil car for the $800 i paid for it. leather seats, sunroof everything. just beware as they all end up "using" oil. they dont burn it. it just seems to disappear into the seals... read about it at saturnfans.com its a good forum site for the satty'*. i used to visit it often.
