the series II NA engines have a slight whien to them.. and I think it sounds good. I enjoy the sound actually. our 95 SSE Bonneville made the sound, and it was louder than my supercharged 3800 is actually. Mine makes more of a whistling sound than a whine compared to the 95 NA.

I always thought that the whine of a NA engine was normal as well, like the 97 I had. It whined all the time but it wasn't anything wrong with it. The Grand Prix my aunt has have a whine to it. I always thought that was GM'* sound.

my dad had the same whining problem on his bonny and he fixed it just last week. He trouble shooted it by takeing a stethascope and putting it on the center bolts of the various pullys on the engine ie, water pump, alt, idler, etc. There was a very noticable difference in noise with the ideler and water pump from the rest. So he changed them out. The car has NEVER been quieter. It was notorious in my nieghborhood cuz it whined as it drove by. My .02
