Default engine oil question

im changing the oil today for the first time in this cars life with me. 45k miles.

im using mobile 1 fully synthetic oil with a wix oil filter.

how long should i go between oil changes with fully synthetic? should i be using fully synthetic or not? is mobile 1 good, or should i be using valvoline, or some other brand?

these questions have occured to me while procuring the oil. any input would be appreciated and a quick use of the search function revealed no real knowledge on the subject to me.

I cant tell you how nice it is having access to two hoists at work, and a 6 bay 14 truck shop...hehe makes oil changes a breeze even in -40.
5000 miles is defintally a good interval, but dont feel too too bad if you go over that by a bit..I pushed 6500 on my last oil change..had a trip to oregon in there too..

For the past 8 months I have changed my Mobil 1 every 3000 miles as I would any other oil. But after reading an interesting article on Mobil 1, and what others have done, I think I will change it every 5,000 now. One point in the article was that as oil ages, engine wear decreases. So "compulsive" oil changers could benefit from changing oil less often.

I usually change my Mobil 1 every 5000 or so. It does the job.
