I put a time limit of 4 months on motor oil. My last oil change interval in those 4 months resulted in only 1100 miles on the oil. I changed it out.

I have been running Mobil 1 for about 11k now. It has actually increased my gas mileage about 1-2 mpg per tank over regular dino juice. i definitely recommend it.
I have been changing it every 3k. But you guys are saying that its ok to go to 5, even 6 k between changes. This would definitely help my wallet with mobil 1 being such an expensive oil.

how about using it for the first time ? my car already has 118 thousand miles and has always had regular 10w30 oil but i would like to go to Mobil 1 but some say it may start leaking because it will clean out sludge that was blocking the leaks ? i have a 2001 pontiac bonneville se.

Changed over to synthetic on my '93 SSE at 115K without any problems. Also saw 1-2 mpg increase, especially on the highway. Actually reached 30 mpg running 75 on the interstate!!!
I'm using Royal Purple... change the filter - NAPA gold, which is made by Wix - every 5K miles and top off as necessary. Change oil and filter at 10K. The 5K interval is nice because I rotate the tires and have acces to grease the front end at the same time. Takes ususally about an hour to do all the stuff.
Hope this helps.

I'm glad this topic came up too. I just recently switched over to Penzoil Platinum Full Synthetic oil in both my Bonne'* and was wondering about the oil change interval now that I'm running synthetic.
BTW, Advance Auto Parts has a sale going right now on the Penzoil Platinum Synthetic, buy 1 get one free. I've stocked up on about 80 quarts of the stuff. I've got enough to do several oil changes but won't be eating for about a month.
I was also wondering how often to go on oil changes. I've been going about 3k on the dino oil but think I will go to 5k on the synthetic.

A lot of "old-fashioned" people will probably say you don't need synthetic. My dad always says "you shouldn't use it, you're wasting your money...blah, blah, blah." I changed over at 107,000 mi. in April. I have 127,000 now and have had no issues.
