Default electrical lighting question

Hey I need to temporarily run a light under the hood. the light I'm using plugs into the cigarette lighter, which isn't going to work for what i need it for. I tried cutting the wires and connecting them directly to the battery'* positive and ground, but it didn't work. anyone have any suggestions?

If you connected directly to the batter and it didn't work......your bulb is out or your battery is dead. OR it'* an LED or Flourescent light and you need the transformer that was in the cig lighter jack that you cut off. What kind of light is it?

Thanks for the quick response will. It'* a neon light that i'm working into the grill design. The battery works fine and I wired the cigarette lighter plug back to the light and it works fine when plugged back in.

Then it'* not a 12v light. There'* a power supply/transformer in that plug. You need to get one of the sockets with the jack and two alligator clips that go to the battery.

Default Thanks for the help will

Didn't even think about that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'll probably end up wiring up a new socket for it to plug into, or just might buy a light that doesn't go to the lighter outlet.
