The Knock sensors are the block drains. Pull those and all the coolant will come out of the block.

The shop vac idea works.....if you have the heads off and want to clean down deep into the water jackets.
When I rebuilt my last engine, I cleaned out about 4 cups of casting sand inside the passages. It had all settled in one corner. I was amazed at how much was in there.
