Default does tint fade?

I tinted my tailights before, with window tint, and they seem to be not as dark as before. I coated them with a thin layer of high gloss clear coat.. I want to tint them again. Should I cover the with something else this time, or load the clear coat on them?

thanks,
Rob

I dunno if painting over the clear coat is good, isn't it supposed to resist that almost? Well you don't want to go too dark either, since it'* against the law in some places, just glad the SSE I plan to buy already has the black stripes on it!

Yes tint DOES fade. I've had 3 vehicles so far with tint on them and with time they all fade. Easiest way to prove it is on 2 of my vehicles I had vinyl on the back window, when I went to remove it the writting was still there in the tint. One of them was only on for about 6 months but always had the sun on the back window. Even from inside you can see it was darker where it was covered from the vinyl.

Fair enough...I have seen tint turn to purple...so ya, i guess it would fade. Could it fade before it bublbles or scratches?

If you are looking for an alternative product that is made for tinting things like lenses, but still show the light when the light is on look for a product called VHT Nightshades (correct me if i'm wrong) there is a write-up and everything in the techinfo section. The cans are like $11 and one will work, but getting two wouldn't hurt incause you use a lot, etc.

Yes...it'* called Nightshade, and I used it on the 95. Don't have to on the 2000, because it'* already done for me. Tint will fade IF you abuse it or use products that don't happen to agree with it...ie. Windex. Don't wash tinted windows with Windex, because it makes it turn colors...such as purple, Jim. You should only use water or a light window cleaning product. Try Glass Foam.

I think the cleaners are the culprit for the purple color but for the fading, well we have to thank the sun for that. Just think that the tint fading is taking the hit for your interior. My new 2003 Malibu doesn't have tint yet, but sicne the new job will be on the road I want it done, makes a huge difference.

We had a seatbelt pad thing on the passenger seatbelt, and this was in Feb, well it only took a few weeks before it was already fadded as if it was YEARS old.

Usually the good tint will take a bit longer to fade though. I guess I need to get my tint done this week before I drive to T.O. next week
