Hello Team,

I newly Started Working on Automotive Domain, Previously I am in Industrial Embedded. Recently I got Some Opportunity to work on GM Projects as contract based. First of All i need to understand the Functionality of GM Car'*. Like Basic it'* starts with Power Modes, How the different power Modes are Working and in which scenario which power mode will get trigger. If i get any basic documents from you people that also more helpful for Me.

Not quite sure what you mean by power modes.....

Are you referring to Active fuel management?

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. Actually what i meant is, When Ignition is turned ON the Engine will start and and the Car will start to RUN... So If the Ignition is turned OFF means after some time Engine gets OFF and the car will be in stationary mode or park mode. If the Ignition OFF also all the ECU'*(Electronics Control Unit'* Inside the car Eg: Airbag ECU) inside the car will getting supply from Battery voltage. So what i need to understand is how this process is happening and what we call for each stage of process. As a Embedded Software Developer point of view what i know is, Initially the ECU Power Mode is OFF and when the Ignition is turned ON it will go to Accessory Mode(All the Electronics Accessory will be turned ON EG: Audio Player) and if Engine Turned ON it will go to RUN power Mode and i am not sure after this also any power mode is there or not...So i am very much interested to understand this process in deeper like OFF=>Accessory=>RUN=>etc.....

I don't think there are "modes". Its either OFF, or ON. Or in the case of the ECU, its in RUN mode, or OFF. If you were to turn the key to RUN, and wound a rope around the crank and started it old lawn mower style, the engine would in turn start running. Same thing if the engine was off, key in RUN and you put the manual transmission in 2nd gear, pushed the car and let the clutch go.

What really needs to be known here for better clarification is, what the hell are you trying to accomplish here?

No, it will not, if you just turn the key to the "ON" position......

No, if the ignition is turned off, the engine is immediately off......however retained accessory power is still provided for accessories like radio, windows, etc. for 20 minutes or if a door is opened....

Like Mike said, basically cars have off/on/crank/run/accessory modes........have had this for decades....the big difference is cars today, from something in the early 80'* is how they COMMUNICATE.....the introduction of modules and and the different ways they communicate, it the major difference in cars today and those made just 40 years ago....along with emissions....
