Default Dexcool (again) and a photo.

I am the second owner of a 1999 SSE with almost 107,000 miles on it. It runs beautifully and is extremely clean. I have all the service invoices from the previous owner, and had asked him if he ever had the coolant changed. He said he had not, and there was no invoice for it. I saw some of the comments about Dexcool, but after reading most of the forum posts, it is clear there is no definitive answer as to what someone should do if they have Dexcool in their car, and have not had any problems with it. Even a forum Moderator and a Resident GearHead cannot agree. This Techinfo article does not give a difinitive answer either...http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=44. A very informative article can be found here.....http://www.motor.com/MAGAZINE/Pdf/082004_04.pdf. I think the best info I have gleaned from all the articles is, do not mix green coolant with Dex, service and flush your system according to recommendations, and keep the coolant up to level. I believe I will try to find a garage that will let me bring my own Prestone Long Life Dex compatible mixed with distilled water, and have them use their flush machine. For those interested, here is a pic of my radiator cap, and oil fill tube next to the radiator fill hole.

Actually the admin and gearhead agree that Dex should be flushed and replaced. With either green or Prestone long life.

What we didn't agree about was the dex killing the gaskets.. the more I look at WillWrens pics..I understand where he'* coming from..and I also see what'* going on with the ones I take apart.

Gotta be the cleanest DEX radiator cap I have seen, either here on BC or in person. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones.

Kind of funny...

It looks to me more like Prestone LL than Dex.

It is sorta orangish pink in color. As I was reading posts about coolant, there was one that talked about the difference in color between LL and Dex.

I had not had the radiator cap off until I saw the pics posted here several days ago that showed the terribly gunked up cap and radiator of a Dex car that was cooling fine. After I removed mine and saw how clean it was, I could not believe it had never been serviced. I called the old owner and asked about it and he confirmed again that he never serviced the coolant. As I understand it, Prestone LL is orangish, but Prestone Extended Life Dex compatible is green? I think Prestone LL is Ethylene Glycol but Extended Live is OAT. You would think the OAT would be orange.
