Default UIM/LIM, VC, and DEXCOOL Questions.

So I am now coming to realization that one must be independently wealthy to own/drive a Bonneville. SO what all gaskets must be swapped to ensure that I nail the coolant leakage problem? Mine is leaking at the LIM mating surface just like everyone elses. I have purchased new upper and lowers plus new valve cover gaskets and a new oil pressure sending unit. Mine failed because coolant leaked onto it and shorted it out. I have not noticed any coolant in the oil but I'll change it just to make sure along with new Dexcool also. While I am at it, what are the torque settings for the blower and intake bolts? This would greatly help me out. I know that plenty of you have performed this repair without a hitch and any words of caution would be greatly appreciated.

You should get the aluminum framed LIM gaskets. They'll last much longer, if not indefinatly, than the plastic ones.

here are torque specs: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=34

did you get the aluminum lower gaskets? how about the small yellow o-rings that come with the upper gasket?

just a couple points from the top of my head:
1. when taking off the fuel rail, you don't need to disconnect the fittings, just lift off and move to the side of the engine bay, still attached.
2. make sure to dap some Ultra Copper RTV in the lower corners when putting the gaskets in.

Here are a couple of pix from my job last week:
New LIM and Valve cover gaskets in place:

I bought my LIM at Oreileys and they price matched Auto Zone $37.99 for that.
Also notice that the one coolant elbow on the left side is broken off at the o ring groove, and the broken part is still up inside in the next pic, which is of the alternator mounting bracket. Make sure your old coolant elbows don't leave any pieces behind, like up inside the passage where it came from.. You can buy the two coolant elbows at most parts stores, Dorman help rack , like $3

Alternator mounting bracket/tensioner pulley, upper coolant elbow, (right side of pic) still in place::

Fuel rail assemly removed:
If you have trouble removing the fuel line fittings, make sure you are using the proper size special release tool, availble for about $10 at parts stores.
You can buy the injector O rings in a kit. I bought fel pro: 4 orings in one kit=enough to do two injectors. You need 3 kits for all 6 injectors, 12 orings total. You should go ahead and replace these while its off. My lower ones where they go into the head were dry rotted at 55k.

Felpro supercharger gasket # MS95744, Comes with the yellow coolant o rings. If you go to the dealer for this gasket, make sure you buy them seperately. Just an FYI, I looked at both gaskets and they are made by the same company.

Here is a pic where I put my supercharger belt on wrong: Yes it will fit and work, just don't make the same mistake I did. Note how it is almost rubbing the water pump pulley, WRONG!! Take time to seperate the belts to where you know which one goes on where. The diagram for your belt routing is in the owners manual.

The drain plug for the radiator on the 2000 SSEI is on the drivers side of the radiator, accessible from the lower front of the car without removing the splash pan, drain plenty out so it doesn't make a mess when you pull your intake:

And get yourself a good torque wrench, one that goes from about 20 to 250 inch pounds and your set. You can buy one or rent one at some parts stores.

And get that dexcool out of there, put in some any make any color, any car Prestone, the green/yellow stuff, about $10 a gallon.

Good luck to you!

For all the tips given for my project, I greatly appreciate it. Especially the one'* for the belt diagram and changing the coolant elbows. Both of the elbows were cracked and leaking. As for the belt diagram, I guess mine is missing under the hood. The gasket swap went very smooth. I swapped out the oil pressure sending unit, UIM, LIM, valve cover gaskets, and injector seals. The injectors were freakin' nasty. This has obviously been leaking for quite sometime and I bet that is why the previous owner traded it in. All in all, the cost for the project including the gaskets, elbows, coolant, sending unit, and oil change was $128.46. It took me about 5 hours to complete the job and only one broken vacuum tee under the blower snout. I'll get some pics up as soon as Photobucket comes back up and some video clips of the exhaust.
