First of all what makes you think there is gunk in there? If the oil was changed at the proper time, there should be no reason to do this.

Second, I run amsoil in everything but my bonneville (still workin on it) I love the stuff, although I see that some on here do not recomend it. If you do use it, just run the normal 10-30.

I talked to my girlfriends mom about this topic. She has her PhD in Polymer Chemistry and works for Exon-Mobil. She has done projects from CV boots to oils to you name it rubber/synthetics.

I asked her this exact question and she stated that you have nothing to worry about. That if you switch to syn. it make take a few oil changes to get the full bennifit of the synthetic oil but it isn't harmful or bad to do the switch. She was also saying that due to the polymers and other things in Mobil one you dont actually have to change the oil until 5-6k because of the quality of polymers in the oil. But I know a lot of us (myself included) would never go that long syn. or not.

Cliff notes: SWITCH!

Polymers or not, they do not prevent contaminants from entering the oil. I still dont reccomend going beyond 5k.
