How big was this bump??? When you said that you now press the gas pedal a bit and it grinds, are you in gear or in park.

It sounds like the tranny to me, doesn't sound good anyhow. Check to make sure you still have some fluid left in the tranny.

it was a bump about a 1" above the blacktop. it was a manhole cover. the tranny is in drive or in 2. the tranny has full fluid. so i don't knwo what the problem could be

Geez that sucks...I hope it'* not too serious, but it doesn't sound good. Well, looks like you won't be making it to Nashua tomorrow either (I'm not sure if you saw the post, but I had to cancel). At least you're back at home and it didn't happen while you were up here (*desperately looking for bright side* ).

If the speedo is dead, that is a sign that the information from the vehicle speed sensor is not reaching the dashboard. You may have disconnected it or broken it over that bump.

Maybe when your car got jacked up they also hit the tranny and not just the oil pan?

Maybe it smacked the UV Joints on the Axle too. You may not see it because its behind a boot. That could be a case of the grinding.

You would feel that all the time, not just on the gas i think. But if the wheel feels funny definetly have them looked at. Someone fucked up the undercarriage of your car bad, i'd have them check anything they coulda hit underneath.
