i want to tint my 92 bonne ssei windows pitch black but the PA law requires 70% visibility......my question is this: is there some way to get a license or something that allows me to tint my windows as dark as i want them.....

Get a waiver from an eye doctor, that'* one way. Check your State/local laws.

I know up here they require about 30% light transmittance through the front windows but the rear doors and rear window can go as dark as you want. The reason why they want that much light to come through is so that they can see the driver. Can't see the driver during a regular stop, out come the guns and good luck.


So unless you want to keep getting pulled over I suggest sticking to the limit.


I did go darker on my front windows that the legal limit( on my Malibu), I went 20%. But my rear windows are also 20% so it looks lighter than it really is.

Smellbird: So I can go to an eye doctor.. and say "I want 5% tint on my car, I need a waiver" And, I can have whatever tint I want? What are the requirements of that? Having good vision?

in MN...law is 50% for cars ALL THE WAY around...

for trucks and suvs, the driver and passenger side windows must be 50, while anything back from there can be spray painted black...

tint is totally illegal here. there are honestly no exceptions other than being lucky enough to not get pulled over.

No, you go to the eye doc and tell him that sunlight is bothersome to your eyes. There'* no guarantee that it'll work, but I know a few people that have tried this.

Best way is to find a friend who'* parent is a doctor. I am pretty sure that in MI, it doesn't have to be an optomitrist, but just a MD will do.

I have a note from an optomitrist, I havn't been pulled over **knocks on wood** and I have 35% up front which isn't bad becasue you can still see me in the day.

Also I must warn you, I have 5% on the back windows and Its a PITA to back up at night, you can't see anything through the back window, even after putting brighter reverse bulbs in. The next car I get tinted will not have 5%, more like 20 or even 35 all the way around.

Definitely get your windows tinted though, it looks sweet and gives you some privacy.

I can attest to this. On my '93, I had 3% all the way around. Got pulled over once, but no ticket.

But night driving was a real pain. I had to pretty much trust that everyone else could see me and take appropriate action, as there was a good chance that I wouldn't see them, particularly pedestrians.

So, keep that in mind. There'* a very good, if not excellent reason that tint laws are the way they are.
