I just installed one kit (two bulb) of cold cathode lighting in my car. I'd get picks, but I have to wait until it gets dark Anyway, they are supposed to only draw 5 amps. How safe is it to leave them turned on, and still be able to start my car? Or does this vary by battery and you need the numbers on it 9CCA, etc)?

yes it is safe, but you might want to consider turning them off. The car dosent have the full power at start up as the car draws alot of power. that coluld lead to a premature failure of the lights if they have the diminished power on every start

you would want to put them on a switch

I know that I have my underbody on a fused wire that is run by the heated windshield in hte fuse panel and the UB kit will no run with the key on but the car not started. The car has to be running for hte UB to get enough power

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, they are on a switch. I didn't know having them on and starting the car could hurt them.

Do you have any clue though how long it is safe to leave them on before the battery won't have enough juice to start the car?

Try, and find out. A lot depends on the condition of your electrical condition, but I would say a while. I can listen to music all day on my factory stereo.. and I have a 800CA battery. My alternator is another story, though

i would probably say that if you left them on for an hour, that you could possibly have a problem. I would say that it would take a longer time than that.

i can go full lights/strobes for almnsot 4 hours before i even remotly have an issue... i have two sets of cathodes from Phil @ Oznium... cathodes are fun

neons strobes and LEDs you could leave on all night before you would have any type of noticeable Cranking power, now I don't know **** about cathodes though.
