A question for clarification... does Wide Open Throttle literally mean your foot (and pedal) jammed straight down against the floorboard? I am always reluctant to go that far, for fear that something will BLOW.

If the car is in good running order, a WOT stance should not hurt it. Your injectors will only open into full spray with wide open throttle. About 1/2 way down you will hit PE mode (power enrichment) that will help, but there is nothing like a 0-60 at WOT to clean out the cobwebs. Your PCM will also learn your driving style and adjust so after a few of these every few days you will notice snappier acceleration.
