Default AutoTap Question ?

My new AutoTap just arrived today.

Can I load the software on to both my desktop computer and my laptop :?:

I'm going to buy a 20' extension cord tomorrow so I can connect it to my desktop computer but would like to obviously use the laptop that hasn't arrived yet.

Not much of an instruction manual. I haven't downloaded it yet, so I suppose the software is user friendly. :?

Yes, you can install the software on any computer that you would like. I have it on the both the laptops we use, my computer, and our family computer. That way, I can look at the logs anywhere and anytime I want.

The software is pretty user friendly and idiot proof.

Did you get the USB version? Tim King from CGP has some major issues with his finding the car (said it couldnt connect etc...). I'm worried that your laptop will be underpowered for the usb version. If you got the serial version you should be ok.

BTW i don't think youll get far in the car with a 20' extension

Rogue - I think you are right. :(
I got the USB connection and the instructions say that it requires a minimum 32 MB of RAM, 64 MB recommended with a minimum 233 MHz processor.

That 133 MHz 25 MB RAM laptop I got from EBay probably won't cut it.

Guess I'll have to search for another.

dbtk2 - don't feel bad, you probably don't have the USB connection type.

Oh well, live and learn.
My kids will find good use for the underpowered laptop.

In the meantime........what can I do with diagnostics for the car with it sitting in neutral in the driveway? I can still rev it in neutral.

Yeah, we have the serial version. I didn't know there was a USB version....

Sorry 'bout that.

You could check for misfires, also if any DTC'* are stored you can clear them. you can check your sensor 1 02 and make sure its waffleing high/low as it should at idle. You can check for vacuum leaks with the idle sensor, quite a bit actually.

Hmmmm. :?
Don't forget that I'm kinda a newbie at this....and not an IT computer guru. Remember how long it took me to figure out how to post a pic.

I connected it up to my idling car and I got a screen with a table of parameters. The only ones that made any sense to me were the idle speed and engine temp.

I guess I'm asking for a little help in setting this up and understanding what it all means. :?

The only code that came up was the Crankshaft position sensor not learned one that I already know about........haven't had the Case learn yet.....this week sometime if I get a chance to get away from work and take it into the dealer.

At least it worked with a 10' USB extension hooked up to my desktop computer.

I setup a custom config file with AT LEAST the following parameters:

Vehicle Speed
Engine RPM'*
Knock Retard
Knock Sensor Active Counter
Barometric Pressure
Manifold Absolute Pressure
Long Term Fuel Trim
Short Term Fuel Trim
B1S1 02 Sensor (IIRC its MV or something, there are two different ones)
Injector Pulse Width
Ignition Timing Advance
Throttle Position Angle
Engine Coolant Temperature
Transmission Temperature (I think its actually called like transmission fluid temp or something)
Air Fuel Ratio
Intake Air Temperature

There are a few more that I usually log that I can't think of right now for some reason. But using just the ones I listed should give you PLENTY of info for basic tuning.

Hope that helps!
