Default audio steering wheel controls stopped working

they were working just fine, until i tried the stock cd player for the first time. once the cd was playing, the controls started to act weird; seek button was adjusting volume, volume button was seeking, and now, with or without the cd, the controls are not working at all. any suggestions as to where to start?

that means that the first time i put a cd into the stereo, the steering controls started to act up, whereas before, just using the radio, they worked fine.

ok gotcha...

interesting problem...

what kind of cd?

my only guess would be to either unhook the radio and rehook it up, or disconnect the battery terminals for an hour or so

There is a fuse for the steering wheel controls. My trunk release is on the same fuse.. your'* probably is too. Sometimes my Volume and Fade buttons don't work, and you just have to press fairly hard. Make sure you are pressing hard enough .

well the cd was kid rock, may have something to do with it.

and yes, i am pressing the buttons hard enough. i did notice initially that they needed a little extra oomph, so, valid suggestion, but that'* not it in this case.

as far as unhooking the radio, is it fairly simple? i see that there is easy access to the back of that center console area, are the connections right there behind the stereo? and if i end up unhooking the battery, what other things will i need to reset?

the radio comes out fairly easy. There are two screws up top [after removing the trim which goes around the dash], and then there are two tabs on the bottom. Those tabs caused me 2 hours of just sitting there, looking at it, not able to get it out. There are three connectors on the back [is it maybe 4 with the antenna?] well, you get the point. Simple, can't screw up the connectors either. Also, while you are at it, make sure that the connectors are still good, corrosian free, and all the wires are intact.

Give it a couple good wacks, if that doesn't work. Take it out, and give it a couple kicks. If you are still at a loss..... blow it up and get a new radio.
