intresting problem, i wonder if some of the wiriing hasn't just corroded together or corroded period. This seems like more a suggestable idea. The control Pods can be removed, take some work however, while your at it you can also fix the buttons so you dont have to 100lbs MASH THE LIFE OUT OF THEM like I used to do.
This tech info submission might help you out a bit, however it is for 92-95, and I do belive your steering controls look diffrent from this one

thanks for the help, i think i'm going with the wacking, and if that doesn't help, the kicking, and if still no luck, i'll probably check the connections...

I've heard this is a common problem on Bonnevilles equipped with this feature. The fact that it happened right after you inserted a CD, Kid Rock, no less (shame on you ) might just be coincidental. I've heard it has something to do with connectors in the steering column becoming loose and separating. Hope it ain't that, though; also heard it'* a biznitch getting to 'em :( Well, I hope I helped some (for once...) You might try reposting this in one of the Mechanical forums. We got some crazy-smart vets in their that now the answer to any question that was ever conceived of dealing with our beloved Bonnevilles. Good luck
