Insurance firms lead us to believe this, but it truly is inaccurate. The above may be classified as a "non chargeable incident". Problem is that it is still noted in your permanent history and will then be available by all insurance companies and other parties for many years. Non-chargeable often will result in a increase in rates.

In my case, I had a F-350 parked in a lot. A uninsured 18 y/o ran a stop sign and plowed into the back of my truck. $1800 in damage. I had a $1,000 deductible. I called my insurance company and they stated non-chargeable. I placed a claim for $800. My insurance doubled at renewal. I inquired and discovered non-chargeable means squat. I then went to shop insurance and everyone new I made a claim. Making a claim is the issue, non-chargeable means very little. If I would of known what non-chargeable meant, I never would of placed a claim for $800.

i really dont know, we will wait till tomorrow and see what they have to say.
my brother'* GP was hit really bad last year at the quarter panel last year while he was at work and they did cover it under vandalism and it was a 6000+ repair, all he paid was the 500 deductable.

John, if you dont think it needs replacement, then how do they fix it? just glue/bond it together and then refinish it?

My bad Sam. I was thinking the damage was above the bumper, i should have looked closer. It'* right above your vanity cover. That prolly could get fixed with bondo if you were paying and might never have trouble with it given the location, but... If they are going to cover it, they will likely want (as well as the body shop to replace it. Most butyl rubber repairs dont take well, especially larger areas. But if I had to pay out of pocket, I've give a good tech a shot at it given the area and it not critical.

Holy crap dude. Too bad you aren't here. I feel bad for people who pay those ridiculous prices because a body shop says they need to. I fix crap like that on a daily basis..much worse than that, without having to replace the bumper. It'* called plastic welding (melting the bumper and fusing it back together), sanding, and a dab of filler to smooth it all out..then obviously primer, base, and clear and it it looks brand new.

Could have it all done for you in a day and looking brand new for LESS than $300.

So many body shops turn a minor repair into a major expense...it'* a joke, wanting to replace an entire bumper for something so small...but hey, I can't complain, their high prices are what give me so much business.

Hope it all works out for you

In my province of BC if someone hits your car while its parked then you just pay the deductable and they will fix the car with no increase or affect on your insurance rates.
