Default 97 Cavalier

My girlfriend'* brother offered to sell me his 1997 Chevy Cavalier (2-dr, 2.2l I4 engine) for $500. It has minimal rust, well kept interior, and has had decent maintenance. It just passed NYS inspection last month. I personally think it is worth more than $500.

If I did buy the car, it would either become my winter beater to save Bonnie for nicer days or I would 'flip' it. I don't know much about Cavaliers since I prefer large cars over small ones.

Is the Cavalier a good, reliable, or even fun-to-drive car? How does it perform driving in snow?
And if I were to flip it, how much do you think I could get for it?

there are a couple members on 60V6 who have swapped 3400/3500s into the 95-up cavaliers.... that certainly made them fun! still get roughly the same fuel economy too.

I was thinking about getting a Sunfire and doing the swap instead of getting my old GA. For a winter beater, the cavi would be just fine
