'90 Mazda 626
Rotary? Swapped in, I assume? 2.2L for a rotary is too big, also. The 1993+ RX7'*, with two rotors, only displaced 1.3L.
My car could not keep up with the same kind of 626, but with the 2.0L (right?) turbo four. But then again, my car'* got no blower-assistance...

The only two available engines for a 1990 Mazda 626 are two versions of a 2.2 Liter INLINE four cylinder engine. The TURBO 2.2 is rated at 145 horesepower and 190 Ft-Lbs of torque OR the NA is 110 horsepower/ 130 torque.
The only 626 available with the turbocharged engine is the GT hatchback.
