edit - Bugsi beat me to it
Aha!! That is my "learn something new everyday" item for today. Thanks!

I decided to ditch even thinking about that car.

Reasons:

It had 108k, I thought it had 103k.
Body was in worse shape than I thought, too many odd dents and scratches.
Interior was nice, but ugly color.

Once I started the test drive:

Brakes squealed. Not much, but they did.
Car pulled to the right.
"Service Stability System" kept flashing on DIC
Car lurched and shuddered upon acceleration and also when letting off the accelerator.
Edit: The steering was jerky and would catch throughout the whole range of motion...both directions....

I dont know if any of that is all related or easily fixed, but why go from my 96 with 95k and ZERO problems to something like this SSEi?

Plus I found a 99 Seville SLS with 80K for $8500 and an 01 Bonne SLE with 80K For $8700 so I'll check those out after work today.

I'll keep you posted!

Check the fluid in the transmission and see what it looks like and where its at on the stick when its cold and hot. I have 176,xxx on my Bonnie and I am not too hard on mine but it'* taken one hell of a beating in the 3+ years that I have owned it.

I'd pass as well with that information.

Cheetah.. We still have faith you'll need to surpass grampa speed of 13mph one day.

I'm just curious if they ever offered you a much lower price on the car before you got away after your test drive. I've always been amazed at how much a dealer will drop the price on a car that I don't want after I drive it and say "no." I think you're headed in a much better direction by staying away from that car, it sounds like it needs a lot of expensive work, and has far too many miles for its rough condition.

I went and drove the caddy today....its the one. Beautiful, loaded, clean, spotless, perfect.

But, we are heading out of town tomorrow for the weekend, and the dealer said that he'd had one offer on it earlier today, and has an appointment to show it to some people coming in from out of state tomorrow.

I guess if its still there monday I'll decide if I want to persue it any further. No use getting excited if it wont be there when i can go deal on it.

The dealer with the Caddy was sort of dicking us around on the trade, we brought in our 98 silverado instead my my sister-in-law'* buick.

Anyways, he told us "wow, whoever repainted it did a good job! Is it a salvage title?"

Bear in mind the truck is beautiful, NEVER been repainted, never even in a fender bender...hardly a ding on it. He gave us a line about frame damage and how the truck was worth nothing to them blah de blah...When it was parked outside, somebody came up and looked at it, asked how much it was selling for!!! The dealer chased him away.

So, I'm not the most impressed with this dealer, but I want the car so we'l see how it works out.

I may have a set of Bonne GXP'* with brand new Eagle GS-A'* for sale next week if the deal goes through.....

Sounds like standard sleazy dealer trade-in tactics. Yes, your dealer is a sleazeball. Which is no reason why you can't get a good deal from them on a car, although it makes it harder. Your best weapons against this are to be willing to walk away and buy a car from someone else, and get any car you might buy from them THOROUGHLY inspected. (There is a reason this has been mentioned so many times.) By all means don't let them take your silverado as a trade, just pu it on Yahoo used cars and Craigslist used cars and get a better price out of it.

I agree with Bugsi

You COULD also kick the sleazeball dealer in the balls then look elsewhere

I suggest the second one

He probably never had another person coming to look at it either. Just another tactic to get you to buy it.
